Venerable Ambalangoda Polwatte Buddhadatta Mahanayake Thera (A.P. Buddhadatta) (1887–1962) was a Theravada Buddhist monk and a professor of Buddhist philosophy at Vidyalankara University. In 1954, he was the first Sri Lankan monk to be awarded as the Agga Mahā Paṇdita by Burma (Myanmar). He was a member of the inaugural staff of Nalanda College, Colombo and a member of the Ananda College staff. Because of his number of substantial texts composing on Pali language and literature, Ven. English Translation of Seḷalihiṇi Saṃdesha is an example for that. But, in the course of time, some of written scriptures have been disappeared. He has written 1155 articles for newspapers. The texts and editions which year compiled by Ven. Buddhadaththa Thera can be categorized as follows: Grammatical texts for the teaching of Pāli language, canonical texts, lexicons, editions and translations, texts on biographies, texts on history, Pāli literature and philosophy, texts written to the Pāli text society in England etc. It is noteworthy that it's not an easy task to collect relevant information of the academic compilations of this veteran Pāli scholar.
